Hello Beautiful mind,
It’s boss o’clock and I want you to go out into the world today heads up, chins up, shoulder squared and confidently take your place in the world.
Here are 9 ways to be boss up and be more assertive.
1.BELIEVE IN YOUR SELF
The foundation of being assertive starts with YOU. You have to learn how to be confident in yourself and the decision you make. Understanding who you are, loving and accepting that person will help in improving self-love and eventually building good self esteem.
2.IDENTIFY YOUR VALUES
Your Values are principles/standards by which you live. Those things you deem important to you. They may be inherent (Nature) but mostly come from how you were raised (Nurture). Identify your values, write them down and it would be easier for you to bring them to the fore, when you are about to make decisions.
3.BE WILLING TO LISTEN
In as much as you have your values and standards you live by, be open to discussion. Listen actively, not with an “already made up mind” but to understand the other party. Being considerate and striking a balance is key to effective communication.
You have listened attentively and you now understand from that person’s point of view. You should be honest with yours too. Avoid exaggerations to make your point appear real.
5.EXPRESS YOUR VIEWS CALMLY AND POLITELY
Say your mind in a very polite manner. Take a deep breath, ensure you are calm, you can take it slowly if you like, you can even write your thoughts down and read them out. In all you do, avoid being aggressive, rather raise your points clearly, firmly and calmly.
6.TAKE YOUR TIME
Don’t feel pressured to make decisions. It’s OK to ask for some time to think before you give your final decision.
7.TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS
Whatever decision you make, stand by it and be responsible.
It may not be perfect or may not be the best but you’ll learn and get better.
8.DON’T FEEL GUILTY
Sometimes, your decisions may not go down well with the other party. That’s OK. Avoid guilt trips
9.ASK FOR FEEDBACK
It shows that you truly are concerned about the other party. However, this does not necessarily mean you have to change your stance.
Go into your day and be amazing!
